WILLIAMSTOWN, N.J. (WPVI) -- Every time the Williamstown High School football team takes the field, they honor Darius Boyer.

The team's former starting center drowned in July right before his senior year.

Boyer was just 17 years old.

At Boyer's funeral, the team made a promise as they stood over his casket - get to the state title game for Boyer.

And sure enough the Braves have done just that.

Two weeks ago to the day, they upset Cherokee in overtime to make good on their promise, clinching a spot in Saturday's Group 5 Title game.

"Up there I knew he was looking down on us, and he's so proud for us," said running back Tyrik Glenn.

"If he were here today, I know he would have the biggest smile on his face, and I would probably cry and, you know, just hug him and tell him I love him," said running back Joseph Early.
