Man drives to Northeast Philadelphia gas station after being shot

NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 32-year-old man was shot in his side, four blocks away from a Sunoco gas station, where he drove to get help in Northeast Philadelphia.

The incident happened around 4:30 a.m. Friday on the 5800 block of Saul and Alcott streets.

Police say the man was sitting in his car. They believe the gunman opened fire from right outside the open passenger window.

The victim managed to drive to the gas station located on the 5800 block of Roosevelt Boulevard, which is right off Oxford Circle.

As he was driving away from Saul Street, his car struck two parked cars.

Some of the neighbors witnessed the man leaving the scene. They were upset and followed him to the Sunoco gas station.

They approached the man who was speaking only in Spanish. They did not understand what he was trying to tell them.

They soon realized the man had been shot, and called the police.

Officers took the conscious victim to Einstein Medical Center. He is listed in stable condition.

One car owner said she didn't hear the shooting, but she heard the crash from her home.

"I was just upstairs in my bedroom, and I heard a loud crash. And then my telephone started ringing, and neighbors started knocking on my door. And I came out and saw my vehicle was hit," said Tanya Rozier.

Police held the scene at Saul Street where they found several shell casings.

Philadelphia Chief Inspector Scott Small said, "We're not sure what the motive is, but we do know, there was a lot of money in the center console of the victim's vehicle. So if robbery was a motive, it doesn't appear that money was taken."

Police continue to investigate the motive.
