Taney Dragons beat Texas 7-6 in 2nd Little League World Series game
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (WPVI) -- Philadelphia's Taney Dragons are on a roll, winning their second game in a row in the Little League World Series.
The Dragons played Texas on Sunday and walked away with a nail-biting 7-6 victory.
After a historic complete game shutout in Friday's game against Tennessee, female phenom Mo'ne Davis wasn't able to pitch in today's game. Little League World Series rules require her to rest for three days before she can pitch again.
Jared Sprague-Lott started on the mound.
Jared had two strikeouts and the Dragons were up 2-0 by the end of the first inning.
Texas scored in the third and homered in the top of the fourth, cutting Taney's lead down to 3-2.
In the top of the fifth, Texas got a three run homer for their first lead of the night 5-3. After another run, also in the fifth, Texas' lead extended to 6-3.
After allowing five runs, pitcher Jared was replaced by Joe Richardson.
Taney rallied at the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs and cutting Texas' lead to 6-5.
Going into the sixth, there was another pitching change for Taney and Erik Lipson was brought in.
Texas held onto their 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth but the Dragons came back scoring two runs at the bottom of the sixth to win the game 7-6.
More than 150 miles away in the City Hall Courtyard, fans in Philadelphia say they felt like they were in Williamsport, watching Taney's nail biting win.
Mayor Michael Nutter hosted a pep rally/watch party to cheer on the home team.
The music, the dancing and the food made it a party but the Taney Dragons took center stage.
"I am so proud of them. I've seen them come a long way and I'm so proud of them," said Maureen Fratantoni.
"That was amazing! I'm so grateful that I'm here with all the people in Philadelphia just cheering on this team," said Mo Fogarty.
Mayor Nutter says it's easy to see why these 12 and 13-year-olds are making history.
"They've all come together as one. The city is fully behind them, I think they have really taken the nation by storm with a classic Philadelphia story," said Mayor Nutter.
Taney's next game will be against Las Vegas on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
