Worker stole $30K of copper wire from Delaware power plant, police say

DOVER, Del. -- Police in Dover say a man has been arrested for stealing about 1,000 feet of heavy-duty copper wire from a city power plant.

Police say that between November 2012 and July 2014, wire was taken from a warehouse on the property of McKee Run Generating Station.

Police say an investigation found that an employee, Michael Shane of Clayton, Delaware, had received $30,000 for scrapping nearly 11,000 pounds of copper wire.

They say pieces of the stolen wire were found at Shane's previous home.

The 46-year-old Shane was arrested and released on $5,000 bond.

A number listed for Shane was disconnected, and it's unclear whether he has an attorney.

The plant belongs to the City of Dover Electric Department.
