TRENTON, N.J. (WPVI) -- Trenton police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting of a 9-year-old girl in Trenton, New Jersey.
Jabreel Abdullah, 32, of Trenton was arrested around midnight by the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Also arrested was a 17-year-old juvenile who, because of his age, is not being identified by police.
The victim's mother does not want her or her daughter's faces shown or their names released.
She told Action News that there is now some relief amid news of the arrests.
"My baby, she will feel better. At this point everything is a little more at peace but there is a lot going on for her, we'll have to make it through," said the victim's mother.
The 9-year-old girl was shot three times Monday afternoon as she sat in her stepfather's SUV on Bellevue Avenue.
She ran to her grandparent's house and was taken to the hospital.
Neighbor Victoria Williams says she saw the chaotic scene unfold.
"I actually saw the gunman with the gun in their hand shooting that little baby," said Williams.
Williams says with the arrests, the neighborhood will begin to feel normal again.
"My kids can come outside and play. After that incident they haven't even come outside to play," she said.
The 9-year-old victim is recovering from her injuries. He mom says she is doing well.
"She's very high in spirits. I try to keep her sitting down but she won't sit down. She's constantly moving around and in good spirits," she said.
Her mom says her daughter misses her friends at school. The victim will not return back until after summer vacation in September.
Meanwhile the two suspects face charges of aggravated assault, weapons possession and drug charges.
Bail for Abdullah was set at $100,000 cash. The juvenile was remanded to a youth detention center in Middlesex County.
