Outpouring of love and support for Texas church

SUTHERLAND SPRINGS, Texas (WPVI) -- In the wake of the tragedy, a lot of help is pouring in for the Texas church and community.

A hush sits over Sutherland Springs Texas. Hugs and prayers can be seen on nearly every corner.

Residents are reeling as more details come to light as to how a gunman walked the church pews of First Baptist church and methodically took aim.

Wilson County Commissioner Skip Hajek said, "It's a hard healing process right now. There's a lot of uncertainty about what the future holds."

Not far from the church site and the horrific shootings is this remarkable symbol.

Twenty-six crosses- representing the 26 lives that were taken. It's become a place for people to come and pray as they continue to ask questions.

"Why a church? Was it worth it, taking all those families was it worth taking all those lives?" said Danielle Smith of Sutherland Springs, Texas.

Susan and Jerry Welch are among the dozens who have traveled to Sutherland Springs to comfort those who are hurting. They are chaplains literally walking the community and offering support.

"They are looking for a time where they can gather together peacefully and start the healing process," said Susan.

Chaplain Jerry added "To service the community, we're here to pray whatever they need."

The support continues to come from all over the world for this grieving community.

Action News also learned that the shooter was at the church attending the Fall Festival on October 31.
