The principal of a Catholic School in Merion Station, under fire for firing a gay teacher earlier this summer, plans to hold a meeting for parents next month.

MERION STATION, Pa. (WPVI) -- The principal of a Catholic School in Merion Station, under fire for firing a gay teacher earlier this summer, plans to hold a meeting for parents next month.

Margie Winters says she was fired from Waldron Mercy Academy because she's married to another woman.

Just last week Winters presented a petition to the Philadelphia Archdiocese, with 20,000 signatures of support.

The Archdiocese says it can't control the school's decision, because Waldron Mercy is private.

A date for the meeting has not been announced.

Classes begin at Waldron Mercy September 8th.
