PennDOT prepared for winter
PennDOT prepared for winter: Rick Williams reports during Action News at 12:30 p.m. on October 19, 2017.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Despite having unseasonably warm temperatures this fall, PennDOT is already focused on preparing for the winter months.

On Thursday, the department outlined its preparations and equipment ahead of the winter travel season.

PennDOT says it has $27.6 million to service Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties this winter.

The department also has 182 state-owned plow trucks and a snow blower that can move up to 1,200 tons of snow per hour.

Officials say drivers in our area can start preparing now for winter weather.

PennDOT also introduced a new online tool at 511PA.com.

Drivers can use the tool to view a color-coded map of when each of the nearly 40,000 miles of state-maintained roadway was last plowed.
