WEST KENSINGTON (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police say a 47-year-old woman was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in West Kensington.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday along the 100 block of East Sterner Street.

"I heard gunshots, constant and nonstop gunshots. It was crazy," a man, who did not want to be identified, told Action News.

He said he heard the bullets being fired around the corner from his home.

"This was definitely a drive-by," Philadelphia Police Captain George Fuchs said.

Police say the victim was standing with a group of people at A Street and Somerset when a barrage of bullets filled the intersection.

"A green Chevy Trailblazer came southbound on A Street from Somerset, stopped in front of A and Sterner, and fired multiple times into a crowd of people and the female victim was the one who sustained the gunshot wound," Fuchs said.

Police say the victim was hit three times: once in the head, the neck, and shoulder.

Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Police are trying to figure out if she was the intended target.

They say there was no clear motive in the shooting, but are looking into whether this was drug related.

Police say the gunman's vehicle was last seen heading south on A Street and are continuing to search for the green SUV.
