Is honking your horn free speech?
DETROIT (AP) - January 17, 2008 It is according to
the American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU of Michigan is taking
the city of Ferndale to federal court over its "no honking"
policy for anti-war protesters. Every Monday for the last five
years, demonstrators have carried signs urging motorists to honk
for peace. The ACLU contends such audio action is a form of
constitutional protected free speech. But the city of Ferndale
counters that needless honking is distracting and could be
dangerous. The federal judge hearing the case in Detroit hasn't
indicated when she might issue a ruling on the beep for peace
issue.
