Police cruiser swiped

MOORE TWP., Pa. - January 20, 2008

Police say when they responded to a landlord-tenant dispute in Moore Township in Northampton County, they found a truck pulled along side the road. There was a man bleeding and there was blood smeared all along the side of the truck.

When the officer tried to help, he removed the keys from the truck so the suspect couldn't drive off, and the man jumped into the cruiser and drove away. In the process, the officer suffered a leg injury.

He drove about a quarter mile away, left the car under some trees and then ran away.

Police identified the man as John Zeiner Jr., 36 of Bath, who lived at the location where the landlord-tenant dispute was originally reported.

Zeiner was eventually found at a relative's house and taken to Muhlberg Hospital for cuts on his hands.

He will be arraigned on aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and theft charges.

The officer was treated for his leg injury and released from the hospital.
