Plan to raffle house is a go
BIG POOL, Md. (AP) - January 21, 2008 No, they haven't found a buyer. But
state officials have ruled the couple's plan to raffle off the
house is legal. Dennis Kelly and Karen Crawford put their farmhouse
on the market a year and a half ago. They didn't have any offers at
their $425,000 asking price. Price cuts didn't help either. Now,
the state says the couple can raffle off the house in conjunction
with the San Mar Children's Home. The charity has agreed to buy the
house for the $390,000 appraised value. But there's a catch. The
raffle must bring in at least a half million dollars in $100
tickets. Officials of the charity hope to sell enough tickets by
March 10th, so they can draw the winner at their annual dinner that
night.
