Clerk uses bat to scare off robber

WILMINGTON, Del. - March 17, 2008 The ordeal started Saturday night at Roselle Liquors on the 25-hundred block of Kirkwood Highway.

Clerk Bo Reddy says a woman came in to pay back a two-dollar debt on cigarettes.

She gave him the money, but then pulled out a black handgun and demanded cash.

That's when Reddy went for his Louisville slugger behind the counter.

"It was just a reaction. I was not thinking what was going to happen or not going to happen," he said.

He pounded the bat against the counter and the woman fled, leaving behind the gun.

The weapon was actually a pellet gun.

Police arrested 55-year-old Alma Cline for attempted robbery.
