Police ID suspect in Temple shooting

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - May 14, 2008 Police are looking for 19-year-old Marshall Thomas of Brown Street.

Police say he is responsible for last night's burst of gunfire at 15th and Norris Streets on the western edge of Temple University's campus, startling student body members who live nearby.

But Temple students were not his target. Police sources tell me he was in a jealous rage when he opened fire on 19-year-old Adrian Schultz, the new romantic interest of Thomas' long time but now estranged girlfriend Schanice Henderson.

Schultz was on duty as a campus security guard when Thomas rolled up on a bicycle and allegedly shot her in the chest, leg and hand. She remained at Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

University officials say they quickly determined this shooting was not a random one. They decided not to activate the campus wide emergency alert system designed to notify the school community of a critical event or disaster.

The shooting happened on the last day of final exams with many students moving out of dorms.

Anyone with information about Thomas' location is asked to call 911. Attempted murder, assault and weapons charges have been approved by the district attorney's office.
