June 27, 2008 "The settlement involves charges that TransUnion sold consumers personal information in the early 1990s," explains Tom Corbett, Pennsylvania Attorney General.

The national settlement applies to all consumers who had an open credit account or line of credit between January 1st, 1987 and May 28, 2008. That includes car loans, student loans, mortgages, and credit cards.

Corbett tells us, "The settlement is still subject to final court approval but consumers can review information right now regarding the case and can submit a form indicating whether they want to participate."

TransUnion has agreed to offer consumers two different levels of free credit monitoring services which would include access to their credit score.
