Amish teen falls to death at barn-raising

NOTTINGHAM, Pa. (AP) - July 15, 2008

Emergency crews say the 17-year-old boy apparently fell while attempting to put a roof beam in place, and then was struck by the falling beam.

About 30 people were working on the barn in Little Britain Township. Ambulances and a medical helicopter were called to the scene Monday afternoon.

The teenager was not immediately identified pending notification of relatives. Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni says the death is apparently accidental. He says an autopsy is planned Tuesday.

The workers are erecting a barn to replace one destroyed by fire last week at the farm of Aaron and Anna Stoltzfus.
