Back to School Saving with 6abc

Saving with 6abc takes a look at Back to School shopping. The questions are: What kinds of deals can you expect this year, where can you get them, and should you buy now or later? The Back to school shopping season seems to start earlier and earlier every year.. The good news is.. That means you have more time than ever before to figure out your plan of attack to get the best deals.

It's hard to beat the Penny promotion.

"There are a lot of penny items. We have paper for a penny, crayons for a penny, we have rulers for a penny," said Marianne Worsinger with OfficeMax.

Every week, Office Max puts the power in your penny on different items.

So you should check to see when the products you need are part of the promotion.

Also check the circulars and you'll also find great deals at other retailers. Here's just one example of these weeks sale: Buy one notebook for $1.99 and get two free! "We have buyers who search all over the market for the absolute rock bottom deals," said Chris Streahle with Foreman Mills.

Foreman Mills may not sell pens and pencils. But here you will find back to school clothes and even uniforms at 50 to 80% off department store prices!

For a $100 Action News filled an entire shopping cart with sneakers, t-shirts and even school uniforms!

"Designer sneakers. High school musical backpack at $9.99, we sell lunch boxes," said Streahle.

Of course, this is the just the kick-off of the back to school shopping season.

So should you buy now or hold out for deeper discounts that may be to come?

"I think the bargains will be there but it may not be the bargain on what you need," said Dr. Carol Kaufman-Scarborough, Rutgers University Marketing Professor.

"If you wait you may have to pay the shipping. If you wait you may have missed how much the merchandiser has gotten into the store that's always a risk with something that's fashion-oriented. Frequently a lot of the items will sell out and not be replenished," added Kaufman-Scarborough.

And here's a big tip for online shoppers: Only buy in cyberspace if you can get your purchases shipped for free.
