It was not immediately clear what caused the crash in Mannington Township, which occurred on Route 540 at about 1:50 p.m. and involved a car and a sport utility vehicle.
Witnesses said the SUV caught fire and left the roadway after the crash and overturned, while the car ended up rammed against a guardrail.
State police from the Woodstown Barracks were investigating.
