Returns can be cheaper for you

Face it, not every gift is perfect. But sometimes, people rip the packaging on items they then return, leaving stores in a bind.

To get rid of items that have already been opened, stores will often offer them at a discount. This can be a great deal for you.

You're going to take it out of the package anyway. So, especially if you're looking for electronics, ask store clerks if they have returned items in damaged boxes, and then ask how much of a discount they'll give you to take those items off their hands.

Someone else's wrong gift may turn out to be the right deal for you.
