Surgeon's funeral moved to larger venue

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - December 30, 2008 Forty-two-year-old Maj. John P. Pryor of Moorestown died Christmas Day when a mortar round hit near his living quarters in Iraq.

The married father of three was a trauma surgeon at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was serving his second tour of duty with the Army reserves as a combat medic.

Pryor's brother tells the Philadelphia Inquirer that John had designated a community church in Moorestown for his own funeral before deploying.

Response to Pryor's death has been so enormous that Monday's funeral has been moved to a cathedral that is the seat of the Philadelphia Archdiocese.
