Like everything from coffee shops to state governments, healthcare is feeling the impact of the faltering economy.

As a result, Frankford Health Care system says it will be laying off some workers.

After eliminating open positions, and shifting employees to alternate jobs, the hospital says it will eliminate 100 full-time jobs. About 15 per cent of them will be clinical nurses.

But hospital officials say they intend to keep the same staffing levels.

Hospital CEO Roy Powell says, "We will continue to meet patient demand in a clinical environment that offers the skill and expertise of highly-trained physicians and healthcare professionals supported by leading-edge medical technology."

Frankford Health Care, which operates 2 hospitals inside Philadelphia, says it will continue with plans to build a new, leading-edge hospital campus in Lower Makefield, Bucks County.
