A central Pennsylvania woman who became Lancaster's first female firefighter in 1983 is becoming the city's deputy fire chief. Capt. Susan Warchola is to replace Deputy Chief Lloyd Henry when he retires in April.

Warchola plans to develop a training program to bring more consistency to the Lancaster Bureau of Fire.

Warchola says the hardest part about her new job will be going away from fighting fires on the front line.
