Mayor Dell Tush says parking meter rates will increase this summer by 25 cents an hour, from $1.25 to $1.50. She says seasonal permits for nonresidents will go up by $50, from $150 to $200, and parking fines for an expired meter will increase to $50.
Town Manager Gordon Elliott says some of these rates were increased just last year. But he says the money is needed to balance the budget, which includes cuts to the administrative, seasonal police and beach patrol departments.
Not all parking fees will increase. Elliott says daily and weekly parking permit fees remain the same this summer.
