Scientists unlock secret to gray hair

BRADFORD, U.K.; March 3, 2009

Scientists at the University of Bradford, in Britain have discovered that the "root" cause.... is a buildup of hydrogen peroxide inside hair cells.

Our bodies naturally make hydrogen peroxide AND an enzyme to keep it in check.

As we age, that enzyme drops off, and the hydrogen peroxide builds up.... Turning hair gray.

Genetics do play a role, too, with Caucasians going gray earlier than Asians, for example.

Scientists say the process could be at the root of the skin condition vilitigo, in which white spots develop on the skin, progressing to larger & larger sections of the body.
