7 injured in minivan, car collision

RICHARDSON PARK, Del. - March 8, 2009 Delaware State Police are currently investigating a 3 vehicle crash that occurred around 6:48 p.m. on Sunday. The crash occurred near the intersection of Maryland and Idela Avenues in New Castle, Delaware.

A 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling on Maryland Ave when it rear ended a 2007 Cadillac CTS. The Cadillac, in the westbound lanes, was in front of the Jeep and was pushed into the eastbound Maryland Avenue traffic pattern at which time it collided with a third vehicle. The third vehicle is a Volkswagen Cabriolet.

There are multiple nonlife threatening injuries related to this crash. Some of the individuals involved were taken to St. Francis Hospital while others were transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment.

A preliminary Delaware State Police investigation indicates alcohol to be a factor with this crash. The investigator will need to visit both hospital and contacts those involved to obtain names and ages. Most of the injured had already been transported to area hospital prior to the Troopers arrival to the scene.

The roadway was shut down for approximately 1 and 1/2 hours.
