It's good to be a judge

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - April 1, 2009

The state has furloughed workers and slashed programs to close a $41 billion budget gap.

But judges in Tulare County still get free health club memberships.

Those in Kern County can count on a $600-a-month car allowance.

Eighteen of California's 58 counties give superior court judges perks and pay on top of their state salaries.

But the kings and queens of the courts have to be in L.A County, where they make total of $225,000 a year.

That's even more than U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, who makes a little over 217-K.
