State police say troopers were called in to break up a party at a rented hall near New Castle after fights broke out and shots were fired. It happened early Saturday at the Nur Shrine Temple hall on South Du Pont Highway.

Police spokeswoman Cpl. Angela Garnsey says shots were fired before and after troopers arrived, but they were "from an unknown suspect and weapon."

She says troopers dispersed the crowd but no arrests were made, no weapons were confiscated and there were no known injuries.
