One dead after 'beer pong' fight

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - May 4, 2009 - The District Attorney's office says police responded to a report of a shooting at around 11:40 p.m. in an alley between 109 and 111 West Second Street.

Officers found Scott Riley, 25, on the ground and bleeding from the neck. A .40 caliber shell was near him.

Riley was taken to Montgomery Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Joseph Brian Jimenez, 24, was arrested near the scene.

According to police, Jimenez admitted he was at a friend's home on 111 West Second Street in Bridgeport when he and Riley encountered each other in an alley after an argument over a game of beer pong.

Police say Jimenez shot Riley once in the neck and fled home, tossing his gun in a trash can.

Police say Jimenez's mother told them she was asleep when her son woke her up, saying he shot the victim and told his mother a story about what happened. Jimenez allegedly told his mother he had been playing beer pong with the victim and his gun fell and went off.

An autopsy showed the cause of death was a gun shot wound to the neck. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Police say the gun casing found at the scene matched the gun belonging to Jimenez.

Jimenez was taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 11th.
