Wyeth's 'Goodbye' to be published for first time

ROCKLAND, Maine (AP) - May 20, 2009 Wyeth's "Goodbye" will be featured in the 25th anniversary edition of Island Journal, which goes into circulation this weekend. The painting depicts an island scene. Look closely, however, and you'll see a sloop sailing off the canvas.

Spokeswoman Nancy McLeod Carter says "Goodbye" will be part of a folio of Wyeth works featured in the publication.

Wyeth died at his Pennsylvania home on Jan. 16 at 91. He kept a summer home in Maine, and he and his wife Betsy provided initial funding for the first Island Journal in 1984. It's a publication of the Island Institute, an organization dedicated to issues affecting Maine's 15 year-round island communities.
