Pa. 'considering' sending prisoners to Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - August 12, 2009 But they'll have to stand in line behind California and the federal government, which may ship terror suspects from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Pennsylvania Department of Corrections spokeswoman Susan McNaughton tells The Detroit News officials are "considering" sending prisoners to Michigan.

She said Pennsylvania Secretary of Corrections Jeffrey Beard has spoken three times with Michigan Corrections Director Patricia Caruso.

Department of Corrections spokesman Russ Marlan said Michigan asked all 50 states in March if they were interested in exporting prisoners to the cash-strapped state.

A Michigan House committee plans a hearing Wednesday on the potential of importing out-of-state prisoners.
