A five-week-old boy who, police say, was horribly abused last week remains hospitalized in critical condition. Medics transported the boy from the 6300 block of Dittman Street in the city's Tacony section to St. Christopher's Hospital around 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

At the time, it appeared the boy's chances of survival were slim. However, as of Monday morning, the child continued to fight for his life.

The baby is being treated for cracked ribs, bruising on the face and a broken right femur.

Investigators said this is a case of child abuse.

According to the Special Victims Unit, police continued investigating the situation and there are no charges at this time.

On Friday, police said the family was not cooperating with the investigation and they had hired a lawyer.

A neighbor tells Action News he heard the baby crying around 2:30 a.m., but didn't think anything of it. Paramedics arrived about eight hours later and neighbors say the infant was blue in color.

Neighbors also say the child's father was hysterical, and got in the ambulance as it transported the child away. Those neighbors add the mother went inside, got dressed, and left for the hospital about 45 minutes later.
