The "My Starbucks Rewards" offer will begin on December 26.
Starbucks hopes the new program will minimize confusion between its gift cards and its Gold card, which has a $25 annual fee. That annual fee will be eliminated under the new program.
New members will also receive a free birthday drink.
People who advance to the top level of the new program will get a free drink with every 15 purchased.
