Parenting Perspective: New Year's Resolution

January 4, 2010

So, this year I'm really going to think about what matters in my life and how I might try to change the path I'm following. When you're so busy with work and home life, it's really easy to blindly continue down a road and pile on new habits every year. I think resolutions could be a good way to chip at those habits.

My New Year's Resolution? This year, I'm going to prioritize my life a little better. I need a bit more time for two things. I need time for myself and more time with each individual child. I'd like to spend a little time doing something that matters to me instead of rushing from work to play mom right away every day. I've always wanted to take a yoga class; I think I'm going to make that my first personal effort. Next, maybe I'll tackle the piano. I use to play but stopped when the kids were born.

I also will make more time for one on one with each child. I know how important it is, and I do try here and there. But, when I only had 2 children I did a better job of spending just an hour with each child on a Saturday morning. Now that the baby is no longer really a baby, I need to get back to the basics. I think the girls feel left out a lot of the time and it makes me feel so guilty.

Of course, I actually have no idea what I'll cut out to make either of these things happen! But, when there's a will there's a way. So, we'll see how it goes!
