Local missionary contacts home from Haiti

SOUDERTON, Pa. - January 13, 2010

"Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep last night," told Action News.

Ken Nace's 21 year old son Thomas is in the coastal town of LaBaliene, Haiti with 26 other members of Souderton Mennonite Church. As soon as he received word about the earthquake Ken started trying to reach his son. That proved to be difficult though... and not just because of the quake.

It wasn't until this morning when Thomas was finally able to gain access to a computer and send his dad an e-mail saying he, and the rest of his group, are all OK.

It was a relief for Ken and for the pastor of their church.

Pastor Gerry Clemmer said "We heard from them. They're all safe and they've experienced the shocks and the tremors, but no one has been hurt."

Now, Ken Nace says he's confident that his son, who's also an Army Reservist, will be able to help the people of LaBeliene in ways he never thought he'd have to.

He did pack his Army-issued First-Aid kit, saying 'You never know when I might need it, Dad.'"
