Anyone with a state hunting license and a $26 permit can go after the big snakes on public land in the Everglades.

Officials want hunters to get as many of the pythons as they can.

The special hunting season lasts until mid April.

State wildlife experts are even holding workshops for inexperienced snake hunters.

Pythons aren't native to the area.

Most are either escaped pets, or were released intentionally.

Officials worry the snakes are upsetting the natural balance of the region.
