With songs, they help hospital patients heal

CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY; March 12, 2010

Action News photojournalist Gino Canella went along with guitarists John and Vinnie Rossi as they visited Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Camden.

They brought a mix of folk and rock, with a few gospel favorites to patients in several units of the hospital.

New moms with babies just a day or so old heard the brothers' easy sound, and comfortable banter.

In the past 6 years, volunteer artists with "Musicians on Call" have performed for more than 15,000 patients in our area, at Our Lady or Lourdes, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Jefferson University Hospital, and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

It also maintains a CD Pharmacy program, to bring recorded music to patients. The program is always in need of new or gently used CDs, particularly with music appropriate for children.

The program is managed locally by WXPN.
