Podiatry students collect shoes for Haiti

STRATFORD, N.J. - March 16, 2010 The shoes are destined for earthquake victims in Haiti, the effort was the brain child of hospital executive Beth Reichman.

"I had seen a segment on 'Shoes 2 Share' on Action News one night when I was home and I thought it would be a natural fit for our podiatry residency program to partner with Kennedy and have a shoe drive," she explained.

'Shoes 2 Share' is a Wilmington, Delaware based charity. Its founder, Tim Wampler, was on hand to pick up the shoes which will become part of a larger shipment bound for the hard hit Caribbean nation.

'Shoes 2 Share' began 7 years ago when Wampler and his wife adopted 2 children from Haiti. They were appalled at how so many people had to live without the basics.

"We started taking shoes down in suitcases during the adoption process; from that humble beginning we started 'Shoes 2 Share'. We now process nearly 50,000 shoes a month."
