The Department of Environmental Protection says a sewer line, owned by Cheltenham Township, started overflowing during the heavy rains this week.
They've been filtering and chlorinating, but it's not enough to prevent harm.
Officials say there is a public safety and health hazard in Tookany and Frankford Creeks.
Officials warn residents not to fish, go in the water, or allow pets to drink from it.
