Search continues for driver in deadly hit-and-run

CHERRY HILL, N.J.April 26, 2010

The accident happened just before 4:00 a.m. Saturday morning on Cooper Landing Road near New York Avenue in Cherry Hill.

A passing motorist found the victim, 26-year-old Brian DelGozzo, sprawled across the side of the road. He was suffering from extensive chest trauma.

DelGozzo was taken to Kennedy Health System on Chapel Avenue and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Investigators say they have no leads in the fatal accident

DelGozzo's family says Brian got separated from a group of friends earlier in the night. He was supposed to reconnect at Kaminsky's, not far from his home, but he'd lost his cell phone. He got dropped off, but his friends weren't there.

Stranded and without a phone, the family believes he tried to walk home and that's when he was hit and killed.

Outside the house where he grew up, loved ones described a gregarious, fun-loving young man who made everyone around him smile.

"Basically when I got the news it was the worst day of my life," said his brother, Christian. "It doesn't get much worse than losing a little brother."

On Monday the American flag flew at half staff at the Cherry Hill Public Library where DelGozzo worked.
