Second arrest in New Jersey forest fire

PEMBERTON, N.J. - May 13, 2010

Gerald Johnson, Jr., 42, of Browns Mills, N.J. was arrested Wednesday and charged with arson.

Police say Johnson and his friend, 32-year-old Andrew Frake, were drinking in the woods near Country Lakes and started a campfire on the evening of Friday, May 7th.

Upon leaving, the men said they believed they had put out the fire, but police say it re-ignited due to the high winds.

The flames spread, consuming hundreds of acres. The fire was not contained until Sunday.

Frake was arrested earlier this week. He told Action News that, even though he's pleading not guilty, setting the fire wasn't a good idea.

"It's not a very good thing to do, of course. I wouldn't advise anyone else to do that because this is what could happen to you," he said.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

An investigation into this fire continues, and anyone with information is asked to call Pemberton Township Police at (609) 894-3351.
