New facial filler comes from own body

May 24, 2010 It's called Selphyl. It begins with a person's own blood. A small amount of blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge. A special gel pulls out fibrin protein. Then the compound is injected into the skin, it kick-starts the production of new skin cells, and collagen, which is the body's natural plumper.

"What we've seen in the Nasolabial Fold Study was that we get results, pretty much full results, by about two weeks, and most of the result by about one week," said Dr. Anthony Sclafani.

And the impact seems to last. Most patients in the 2-year study are just seeing the need for a touch-up.

The whole process takes about 30 minutes, and is done by dermatologists and plastic surgeons in their office.
