Suspect charged in police car theft, chase

HOCKESSIN, Del.- May 25, 2010

Joseph Snow, 29, is charged with carjacking, car theft, resisting arrest and multiple traffic offenses. He was also charged with offensive touching stemming from a domestic dispute that started the incident.

It all began around 6:30 p.m. Monday when police responded to the Snow residence in New Castle County for that report of a domestic dispute.

Officers arrested Snow, who was handcuffed and placed into a police cruiser.

At some point, Snow was able to escape from the back seat and enter the driver's area where he drove off in the cruiser.

For about 22 minutes, Snow was able to elude capture until he crashed into a sign on Valley Road and then into another police cruiser. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle and later transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

The officer in the other car in the collision was also transported to the Christiana Hospital where he was treated and released.
