I-495 South in Del. reopens after crash

WILMINGTON, Del. - June 14, 2010

The accident happened in the southbound lanes of I-495 in the area of the 2nd Street overpass at about 9:35 a.m.

A Saturn traveling southbound on I-495 overturned when the driver lost control and struck the median.

The car's operator, Jacquelyn Richardson, 21, of Newark, Delaware, was apparently confused after the impact and thought her children were with her. She believed they were ejected during the crash prompting emergency workers to check the area on foot, along with aerial support for the children.

It was later learned that the kids were safe and sound in childcare.

Richardson was treated at Christiana Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. She was cited with Careless Driving.

Traffic flow was impacted for approximately 90 minutes.
