Award slashed in 2nd trial over Wharton pedigree

June 23, 2010

The money awarded Tuesday to biotechnology executive Frank Reynolds came in a retrial of a breach-of-contract lawsuit.

Reynolds thought his executive degree in technology management would come from Penn's prestigious Wharton School of Business. Instead, it came from Penn's engineering school.

Penn says the degree was co-sponsored by Wharton.

Reynolds had won more than $435,000 in the case last year. Penn lawyers appealed that verdict, saying they believed evidence had been altered.

An attorney for the Ivy League university says he'll file another appeal.
