SEPTA fare hikes go into effect

PHILADELPHIA - July 1, 2010

A fare hike went into effect Thursday across bus and rail service provided by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.

Base fares for trolleys, buses and subways are still $2, but the cost of single-ride tokens are up a dime to $1.55. Weekly and monthly passes are more expensive and off-peak fares before 7 p.m. on weekdays have been eliminated.

The fare changes are expected to bring more than $20 million to SEPTA annually.
