Woman who fled to Europe arrested for ID theft

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - July 20, 2010

Ekaterina V. Krukovich, 21, was arrested Monday after returning to the United States from Belarus.

Police say the theft happened on August 7, 2009 at an ATM machine at 19335 Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach.

According to police, a 71-year-old man was using the machine and failed to retrieve his card.

Krukovich, who was waiting behind him in line, allegedly used that card to make several cash withdrawals, then took the card and made additional purchases.

In all, the man was out $1,316.

The victim contacted his bank, where officials were able to identify the suspect from surveillance video.

When police tried to locate Krukovich at her address in the 37000 block of Turnstone Circle in Rehoboth Beach, they learned she had returned to her native country.

However, upon her return to the United States, Krukovich was arrested and charged with numerous counts of identity theft.

She was sent to prison on $28,500 secured bond.
