CINNAMINSON, N.J. - January 10, 2011

Police say Daniel J. Smith, 39, was arrested on January 7, 2011 and charged with sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and related charges.

According to the investigation, Smith and the 14-year-old met on December 1, 2010, at Wood Park in Cinnaminson after Smith replied to the teen's online posting seeking a sexual encounter.

Upon meeting at the park, Smith and the teen engaged in a sexual encounter. Police say the juvenile attempted to discontinue the encounter, but was forced by Smith to complete the sexual act.

The assault occurred in Smith's pickup truck.

The teen and Smith agreed to meet a second time on January 7, 2011.

After appearing at Wood Park on that date, Smith was taken into custody by law enforcement officials from the Cinnaminson Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

Smith is in Burlington County Jail on $200,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

Smith faced an initial court hearing this afternoon.

The investigation was conducted by the Cinnaminson Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office's Sexual Assault/Child Abuse Unit.
