Police: Woman choked during motel assault

NEW CASTLE, Del. - February 7, 2011

Brian Braxton, 48, of Wilmington was taken into custody around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Budget Motel on Memorial Drive in New Castle.

According to police, troopers were called to the motel for a report of a disturbance.

When they arrived, they heard screams coming from one of the rooms. When they knocked on the door Braxton allegedly opened the curtain to peek outside, at which point the troopers said they could see a woman on the floor crying and yelling for help.

Braxton was ordered to open the door, which he did.

Police say they then learned Braxton allegedly struck the woman several times and, when she tried to call police, Braxton pulled the telephone cord out of the wall and choked her with it.

The victim, a 26-year-old who police identify only as Braxton's girlfriend, suffered injuries but refused treatment.

Braxton was arrested and charged with assault, unlawful imprisonment and criminal mischief.
