W. Pa. county to revive authority - then kill it

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (AP) - February 18, 2011

The Greene County commissioners began that legal process of disbanding the Greene County Hospital Authority on Thursday.

The board was created in 1984 to oversee a renovation project at the former Greene County Memorial Hospital. The hospital has been known as Southwest Regional Medical Center since Essent Healthcare bought the Waynesburg hospital in 2005.

The Observer-Reporter of Washington, Pay says a charity that supports the hospital, the Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation, wants the authority disbanded because it hasn't done any work in about 20 years.

The authority board members' terms have expired, so the three county commissioners appointed themselves to the board so they can formally disband the authority next month.
