Del. pastor convicted of theft in mortgage scheme

WILMINGTON, Del. - May 18, 2011

A Superior Court jury returned the verdict Tuesday against Jamaar Manlove, co-pastor of the Vision Builders Christian Center in Bear.

The jury acquitted Manlove of a half-dozen counts and deadlocked on 13 others, including racketeering.

Prosecutors say Manlove pretended to help people in danger of losing their homes by promising to get them money for the sale and offering them the chance of ultimately buying the property back. But they say he instead stripped out the homeowners' equities and collected exorbitant fees at closing that contributed to a cushy lifestyle.

Manlove's lawyer said his client may have made mistakes but didn't break the law.
